Kleuren – Art Competition

“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.”

Introduction

Watch a child draw. See how he scrawls with abandon, jabs the felt tip at the paper, colours an eye so deeply that the pen drives a hole through the paper. Look as he concentrates on the action of the subject, strips out unnecessary detail and toys with scale. This is pure drawing, instinctive, expressive and truthful.

Children’s drawings are interesting, especially to artists, because of their honesty and their energy.

Drawing is important, even today when almost everyone has a phone in their pocket that can record an image in 1/500th of a second. Drawing is looking analytically, and there is no better way to learn to see and understand the world around us. Drawing has the power to deepen comprehension and transform perception. Drawing is the basis of it all; it is where exploration, development and refinement of ideas happen. Furthermore, these experiments themselves will be things of beauty and interest.

Kleuren is a platform where art is an activity that should be fun regardless of ability. ‘Kleuren’ means ‘Colours’; the colours of life.  We wish to see every child artist’s mind unfold in a sketchbook and appreciate the preparations that go into a painting through the preparatory studies. We believe that every child is an artist; hence it doesn’t matter to us if one doesn’t have that good artistic skill. What matters to us is your thoughts and how well you express them.

So are you geared up to draw freely upon your imagination?
