3 WEEKS PROGRAM FOR FOSTERING MENTAL HEALTH IN CHILDREN
Pragayta Foundation commenced a 3 weeks long program to foster mental health in children. Mrs. Tanisha Yadav conducted the first session for children of ages 12-16 years at our Masoodpur, New Delhi branch. Through the medium of fun activities and interactions, children were explained the concept of mental health, mental illness, the factors contributing to mental illnesses and their symptoms. They were told about the immense importance of the mental health of a person, just like his/her physical health. Excerpts from the movie 'Tare Zameen Parr' were shown to help children learn how to identify distress from eustress, and ways of dealing with stress. Through role plays, children were made to understand the unhealthy factors which lead to a person becoming mentally ill. Activities on emotional intelligence were also conducted to help children identify emotions. The children also filled worksheets and drew to self-evaluate their understanding of the concept. The session culminated with a short debriefing, and some music and dance.
