WORKSHOP ON MENSTRUAL HYGIENE DAY
On the occasion of the World Menstrual Hygiene Day, a session was organised to raise awareness about the importance of good menstrual hygiene. Free sanitary pads (hand-made and ready-made both) along with paper soap strips were distributed to the girls and they were encouraged to use safe menstrual products instead of cloth, napkins etc. Ms. Naina Dutt, health and beauty expert, told the girls about the health concerns associated with unhygienic practices during menstruation and answered the girls' queries. They were advised not to self-medicate for pain management. The girls opened up and shared their experiences and problems that they face and also the myths that they are made to believe. They were also urged to properly dispose off used sanitary napkins in order to keep the environment clean. We thank Ms. Renuka for her generous contribution. The session on menstrual hygiene awareness came out to be very informative and useful and we will continue to strive to break the stigma that surrounds this less-spoken-of issue.
